As I was digging through my makeup bag the other day, I found a little sample size of Benefit’s Watts Up! It comes in a stick and is cream to powder and it just has this really pretty luminosity to it. I had tried it once before but I was not impressed with it. I felt that it was too shimmery and made my face look greasy. But I thought I saw somewhere you could apply the highlighter under your foundation and that it would work just as well if not better. So, I thought, why not? I applied it over my primer under my eyes in a triangle to my cheek bones, then down my nose, across my forehead, and above my cupids bow. I then went ahead and blended it with my fingers. Don’t get discouraged, I too looked greasy and thought bummer it didn’t work! But then I applied my foundation (Revlon Colorstay liquid) and it was a whole new ball game. My face looked dewy and fresh. It didn’t really look like I was wearing a heavy foundation at all! I finished up my face with concealer, powder, blush and all that jazz. My face didn’t look greasy or cakey and I am a happy camper! Now I might have to actually buy it! Have you tried Benefit Watts Up!? What’s your favorite or go to highlighter? Thank you for reading! Feedback is always welcome and appreciated! [I feel like there are alot of exclamation points, I will tone it down 🙂 ]
Have you guys tried GlamGlow Masks yet? I got a GlossyBox a few months back with a travel size of the GlamGlow Youthmud Tinglexfoliate . I thought it was kind of weird and didn’t know if I would like it. So, I decided to give it a shot. I noticed right away that it was very earthy smelling and looked like it had pieces of bark in it. Usually masks that say tingle burn me, so I was sure this would burn me too. The mask heated up and I waited and waited and you know what? No burn! I thought, huh well it probably won’t do much then. So I rinsed it off and continued on with my shower. As I checked my face in the mirror I couldn’t believe how much cleaner my skin looked. I knew I needed to exfoliate but was unaware of how badly! My cheeks had a nice pink glow and there wasn’t a flaky piece of skin left on my face. So I am here to tell you yes GlamGlow is expensive ($65 a jar) but it is WELL worth it. I am definitely adding it to my Christmas list and if you see a sale don’t think twice and snatch it up. You only need to use it maybe once a week if you need to but could get away with twice a month. At that rate a tube would last you a whole year! Have any of you tried GlamGlow? Do you have a favorite mask? Comments are welcome and appreciated! Thank you!
P.S. I do not get paid to say this! I really love this product!
I decided to do something a little different and post what I did on my face today. I don’t wear make up every single day, but probably at least 3-4 times a week. I am gaining enough new products from my shopping adventures that I can try something new every day for a little while at least! So today I tried 3 new products: Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Talc Free Mineral Powder in Creamy Natural (a little too dark for me, it makes me look tan and I am so not tan), Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips in Warm Nude, and So Susan Universal Blush.
After I applied my foundation and concealer I set it with the Physician’s Formula Mineral Wear Powder. I don’t know why I didn’t get Translucent or Translucent Fair but I thought it would be like a clear setting powder. Well, the Creamy Natural is just a little too tan for me. I am not sure what I am going to do: get a tan or buy another powder. Anyways, I then went ahead and highlighted my cheek bones, nose and forehead with the Shimmer Strips which I was really happy with. It just gives you soft shimmery glow, not anything too glittery or sparkly. And it’s great to bronze with or just highlight or you can use them as eye shadows. Then I tried my So Susan Universal Blush that I received in my GlossyBox this month. Do any of you get a GlossyBox or other beauty subscription service? I am in LOVE with this blush! I am not sure how much it retails for, it’s probably expensive, but I say SPLURGE if you can. It’s so very pretty and makes you have such a lovely glow. It’s THE PERFECT shade for me. It’s not too dark and not too pink. I love it, it’s great. I had never even heard of this brand before so I am really happy to have found it. I am pretty pleased with the new products I tried beside the fact the powder was too dark, it set my makeup really nicely and it isn’t cakey..or cake like. Have you tried any new products that I should check out? Comments are always appreciated!
I am consistently changing up my beauty routine and always trying new products. I just wanted to share a few of my favorites right now!
I am really loving Maybelline Dream Wonder Foundation right now. I use 15 Ivory but it’s becoming too dark on my skin I think. It feels really greasy and oily as you apply it but it sets into a really nice powder finish. You don’t need any powder to set and it glides on really smooth. I use my fingers but you can use a brush/beauty sponge if you’d rather.
e.l.f. Maximum Coverage Oil Free Concealer Porcelain- If you go back a few posts I wrote a blog post about this concealer. I love it! I use it all the time and love how it’s creamy and doesn’t crease. It makes me look more awake and really brightens my under eye area.
I love blush! On that note I am in love with e.l.f. Mellow Mauve. It’s a neutral color which I haven’t ever used before and I can’t stop using it. I apply it as if I were contouring with it and pop a highlighter on top of my cheek bones. And you can see in that picture I have hit pan! Yay, another excuse to buy makeup!
Lipstick has never really been my thing, I was always a lip gloss gal. But, Revlon’s Super Lustrous Matte Lipstick changed all that. I bought Pink Pout from CVS a couple of weeks ago and I am so glad I did. I love how it applies and it’s a perfect neutral pink for my skin tone. I usually apply Revlon Colorburst lip gloss in Pink Ice over the top. That gloss is my all time favorite gloss and if they ever discontinue it I think it will be the end of me. It’s almost a perfect match to this M.A.C. Lipglass I had over ten years ago that was limited edition. Don’t you just hate limited edition or discontinued items? I wish they were there forever! Or in a warehouse for people like me who don’t like change and wear the same shade lip gloss forever. Anyways, those are my fav things right now, that I can’t go out of the house without. I keep changing up my mascara and eye shadows, nothing really consistent enough for me to write about. As always, hope you enjoyed and comments are welcome and appreciated!
(Please excuse my picture-taking skills, or lack thereof)
My skin is always changing. One month I will have perfect glowing skin all month and then next month I will have hormonal breakouts for a week or two. Since my skin is always changing, my routine is constantly changing also. Plus, there’s always new products, treatments, etc; that need to be tried. So here is my fav skin care stuff right now:
Olay Fresh Effect Bead Me Up
I thought this was going to be a really harsh scrub and could only use it once a week at most. But it’s not! It’s really foamy and you really can’t feel any scrubbing action going on. I love how it makes my skin look fresh and clean right after I use it.
Eslor Firming Collagen Day Cream
I received a sample of this in my Glossybox about 4 months ago. I haven’t stopped using it and I love it. My skin is usually pretty dry so this is a nice thick day cream. My skin does look and feel a little greasy as soon as I put it on, but it absorbs pretty quick.
Vichy Liftactiv Nuit
I also received a sample of this night cream in my Glossybox about 3 months ago and I love it. It smells great and makes my skin feel so soft. I looked at my local Target to price it out and a full jar retails for about $60. I will probably go buy some because I just love it, regardless of the price.
Olay Regenerist Intensive Repair Treatment
I bought this at Target a couple of weeks ago because it was clearanced out to $5 from $25. I thought it was too good to pass up so I bought it. I am not sure if it is working or not. I use it every morning and evening under my moisturizer but haven’t seen a major difference. I am just glad I am not allergic as I am usually sensitive to retinol. I will keep using it till I run out and see if it does anything!
That was my roundup of a few of my favorite things for my skin right now! I just got a new day cream in my Glossybox which is perfect timing because I am all out of the Eslor! I will keep trying new things and write about it again next month. Hope you enjoyed this! Please feel free to comment and share your thoughts!
Does your skin resemble a certain scaley, reptile? Well, you should probably see a doctor, but if your skin is dry from the winter you’re in luck! I have a few tips, that should help you! There are tons of exfoliants, scrubs, lotions and moisturizers you can buy that will work really well, but it’s totally unnecessary.
DIY Sugar Body Scrub
If you have sugar and olive oil/coconut oil then you can make a sugar scrub! The sugar will scrub away dry, flaky skin and the oil will moisturize. Just mix equal parts sugar and oil. If you use coconut oil just make sure it’s in liquid form first by melting it (be careful not to burn yourself!). You want the consistency to be a little runny, so you may need more oil. Then go ahead and slather it all over your body but avoid the face. The sugar granules may be to harsh for your face and you don’t want to scratch it. Make sure to pay extra attention to your knees, elbows, heels and even your feet and hands. Then when you are finished, hop in the shower and rinse it off. Super easy and pretty cheap way to slough away dead skin! When you get out of the shower make sure to moisturize to keep skin soft!
DIY Brown Sugar Face Scrub
All you need for this is brown sugar and honey! If you don’t have honey go ahead and substitute olive or coconut oil. Make it a nice paste like consistency to make sure it’s not running off your face. Go ahead and cleanse your face and take off all makeup. Then apply face scrub and scrub away the winter yuck. Be careful around nose and keep away from eyes. Rinse and pat your face dry. Then apply your favorite moisturizer. The brown sugar is a great exfoliant and the honey is super hydrating for your skin and will also leave it nice and soft.
If you want to get fancy add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the scrubs (my fav is peppermint, it makes me feel invigorated!) but it’s not necessary. You can do this up to once a week to keep your skin feeling fresh and looking invigorated! Hope you enjoyed this and as always comments are welcome and appreciated!
This is a beauty blog, and I love makeup and review, but tonight I felt like getting a little deep. Tomorrow we will be back to reviews but I felt it necessary for some reason tonight to talk candidly about what I think beauty is.
What is Beauty? For everyone it is different. Growing up, like many teenage girls, I was very insecure. I thought I needed to be perfect. If I bought the right makeup or colored my hair the right color I thought people would like me better. And I am ashamed to admit that even at the ripe old age of 30 I still get lost in my head sometimes feeling this way. I have two children, so I have stretch marks, scars from both C-sections and a lot of times my face is broken out in some kind of zit. Some days I need makeup to make me feel good about myself and that shouldn’t be the case.
I look at the Kim Kardashians of the world and wonder what happened to society? We covet youth like never before. What’s wrong with aging gracefully? Our laugh lines define us in our lifetime. How often did we smile and squint at the camera to get those crows feet? To me, beauty is in the way we love our children/husbands/families. It’s in the boo boos we have had to kiss better, in the dinners we cook every night, and all the diapers we change. It’s in the kindness we show complete strangers and the care we show our good friends. It’s the way you love yourself and love others that makes you beautiful. I will still wear my makeup and still color my hair but most days I will be confident I do not need those things to be beautiful. What is beauty to you? As always comments are welcome and appreciated.
Happy Birthday to E.L.F.! E.L.F. had their 10th Birthday about a week ago and to celebrate they had a HUGE sale! They had picked out a bunch of their bestsellers I think and some favorites and offered them at 50% off. E.L.F. is already SUPER affordable and with this deal it got kinda crazy! Plus if you spent $40 everything was shipped free. So of course I spent $40 and got a really good amount of products. First let’s start with the face!
Kabuki Brush…this brush is great! I used it to apply foundation, powder, concealer, blush and highlighter and worked wonderfully. If you want to know why I used one brush for everything check out this vlog.
High Definition Powder…I really like the way this set my foundation. It went on very sheer and didn’t cake up or settle in my face.
Poreless Face Primer…this stuff is awesome! It smells like tea tree oil and goes on like a cream! Love the way my skin felt and looked after using! Plus it didn’t make me breakout like so many primers do!
Acne Fighting Foundation…Nice very full coverage. Very buildable and blends well. Would for sure wear everyday. Only cons are no SPF and the lightest color is still WAY too dark for my skin. I just lighten it with a little Dreamtone.
BB Cream…here is the SPF! I put this on under my foundation one day for an SPF and it was really nice. This actually has really good coverage by itself and is light enough for my skin! Hurray!
Oil Free Maximum Coverage Concealer…Very buildable and blends very well. I really like the packaging. First you get a ton of product in a squeeze tube. The color is a little pink which is nice to off set my dark circles. This is just great, I will be buying it again in a year when I will run out because there is so much!!!!
I tried this stuff out for a couple days and I was pleasantly surprised. It didn’t really settle or cake on my face and lasted all day. It lasted through 110 degree weather, sweat, cleaning, babies cuddling, and everyday stuff. I was very impressed and am so glad I gave it a shot.
I am breaking up this review into 3 parts because I got sooo much stuff and I have two little kiddos that can’t handle their mommy at a computer for 2 hours. I am also sharing a picture below so you can see how the face makeup turned out. In the pic I used everything listed above except for the BB Cream. Hope you enjoyed this review! If you liked it please share and if you have any question or tips please leave a comment!
Ulta had a free 15 piece makeup giveaway if you spent $19.50 or more! I needed a new powder and an eye brow brush so I did it! I got this really cute little makeup bag with really cute little samples and a few full size products. There were 3 different bags you could chose from Classic, Modern, or Trendy. I went with Classic because those colors are more my style.
Isn’t it cute? So inside it came with an eye shadow primer (full size), Super Stretch Fiber Mascara (full size), Sunkissed Blush and Bronzer duo (sample), Eye Shadow Quad with Trendsetter, Molten, Bone, and Lustre (sample), Eye Shadow Quad with Iceland, Sapphire, Peacock, and Blackout (sample), Glitter Eye Shadow Top Coat in Put a Ring On It (full size), Lipstick in Mauve Memories (full size), Brilliant Color Lip Gloss in Pixie (sample), Nail Polish in Grin and Berry It (sample),a blush brush, eye shadow brush, and eye shadow sponge, and a pencil eyeliner duo in black and brown. Now, I bought a brow comb and the Fabulous Face pressed powder in Fair to Light. I haven’t tried any of this yet so this is sort of like a first impression review except it’s in blog form!
This is the first set of eye shadows I talked about. They are super cute! They go on pretty sheer except for the darkest color. This would be great for a daytime look for sure!
So pretty! This is the second set of eye shadows I talked about. They are more pigmented so they are really great for a smoky eye.
Glitter! I love glitter and really wanted to try one of these! This would be great over the blues to glam it up. Who doesn’t love glitter?
This is the primer. Honestly I haven’t used it but I swatched it on my hand and I’m not expecting much. It says extreme wear, but when I tried it on my hand it was really thin and liquidy. It disappeared into my hand and I feel didn’t do anything. I will try it and we will see!
Mascara! I haven’t tried it yet, but I will!
On my hand the top is the gloss and the bottom is the lipstick. It’s a very sheer lipstick, not a lot of pigment. I ran that over my hand 3 or 4 times to achieve that color, so it is layerable. I think I’m making up words today, my spell check is going crazy!
This is the blush brush, eye shadow sponge, eye liner duo, and eye shadow brush. When I opened up the plastic bag the brushes came in the blush brush broke right then…good thing I have plenty of blush brushes!
Nail polish! It’s so cute and mini! It reminds me of those bon bon nail polishes from when I was in middle school. I really like the color too!
This is the bronzer. It is very, very light, which is great for me because I am super pale. It looks really dark but it goes on almost sheer.
And this is what I bought to get this great gift! The eye brow and lash comb and this powder. Now it says pressed powder but it’s very powdery and starts to get everywhere but I think it will be good to set my makeup.
So this is what I got from Ulta! The gift is probably one of the biggest gift bags I have ever seen and you really don’t have to spend that much to get it. I love department store free gifts but you usually have to spend $40 to get it and it’s only like 3 or 4 samples of items. If you like this post share it or leave a comment! Let me know if you want to see more like it or have suggestions for different posts!
Have a great day!
P.S. I have a twitter! It is @alovelybeauties! ( the exclamation isn’t apart of the name)
I have seen this line a lot at Target. It’s been reviewed all over and gotten pretty good reviews. I really wanted to try it for myself and see how I liked it. It’s pretty darn good! I started with the foundation. It comes in a squeeze bottle and I applied with a “beauty blender” (oversized sponge). It has a buildable coverage. You can do it as light or as heavy as you want, just keep applying. It blended very well and matched my skin very nicely. Next I applied the concealer. I really liked it! It covered very nicely and also doubles as a highlighter! I have been applying their powder over to set it, even though it’s a powder foundation. I just wanted to see how it felt and all in all this is an exceptional product. I have been wearing it all day and really love the way it feels. It also held up all day through the sweltering heat and didn’t melt off right away. It didn’t last me all day and would need to be reapplied if I didn’t have a secret!
Beauty Secret #1:
Finishing spray! I love this stuff! My favorite is the Dewy finish for a nice little glow. My makeup does not budge with this stuff, its freaking awesome! Target now carries NYX so I highly suggest picking some up!
All in all, if you need an inexpensive face makeup this new line by Covergirl is a worthy contender!
